To high school alumni: Does Who’s Who Among American High School Students have any credibility?

This is a question for high school alumni who received and accepted the Who’s Who Among American High School Students award. Does the award have any credibility or validation? Did it help you to get into the college of your choice? And if so, which one was it? Do college admission boards actually look at the award as a credible achievement? If you are going to answer this question please make sure you had accepted the award. Don’t post an answer like, “I didn’t get that award but I still did dandy…” Again, this question is only for those that have received this award and are currently in college.

  1. I'm getting ready to go into college, but I have received this award. This is free to receive and any award boosts your credibility. I'm not sure if it had any effect on me getting into Bellarmine University (or any other college/university I applied to), but it certainly didn't look bad!
  2. Good question. I was a "Who's Who" high school student and completely forgot about it until I read your question. It has never come up. I suppose it is something you could put on a college application or a job that you are applying to right after high school. College admissions boards might look at it, but they are more likely to look at the things you did that got you into Who's Who in the first place. Once you get into college and beyond, it doesn't carry a whole lot of weight.
